Setting Up Voice Search on a Streaming Device

Voice search can save a lot of typing on a TV remote — here's how it's generally set up.

Most modern streaming remotes include a microphone button for voice search, letting you avoid typing with an on-screen keyboard entirely.

General setup steps

  • Grant microphone permission when prompted during initial device setup
  • Confirm your device's assistant (Google Assistant, Siri, or Alexa, depending on platform) is enabled in settings
  • Test it with a simple app-launch command before relying on it fully

If voice search isn't working

  • Check the remote's batteries
  • Re-pair the remote if it's Bluetooth-based
  • Confirm the microphone permission wasn't revoked in a settings reset

Still having trouble with the remote itself
